U13 match report: Garnock U13 v Kilmarnock U13 Jan 27th 2019
Report by Gillian Duffy.
On a very cold and windy Sunday at Lochshore the U13 team welcomed Kilmarnock to their first game of the New Year. With some good hard training sessions under their belts the team was really looking forward to this game. Conditions weren’t easy but 3 x 20 minute sessions was the order with Garnock kicking off the match. Kilmarnock opened the scoring with a try that was purely down to defensive errors on Garnock’s part. Poor tackling meant that the Kilmarnock centre could run in and score between the posts. Garnock regrouped and from the kick off scored a really well worked try. This was really the story of the whole game until the last 20. It was tit for tat scoring. Some really good entertaining play from both sides was enjoyed by the supporters. Garnock trailed by 2 conversions and dug in. They were hungry for victory. A try was all they needed to win and this came as the clock ticked down. A superb line break and run in by new player Joel who touched down to the delight of the team and supporters. The team defended superbly in the final minutes and closed out the game. The final score was 36-32 to Garnock.
It was a superb game of rugby to watch. Some great passages of play and really good team made tries were scored. Some defensive work and tackling needs to be worked on but overall the team played as a team and worked well together. Very hard to pick out individual players but mentions go to Joel, who played his first game and managed to get on the score sheet; Kieran for his support play and tackling; Huck for some outstanding runs and line breaks and Andrew for his support play which bagged him 3 tries. Collectively the forwards played very well, recycling the ball well and winning the rucking contest. Was also great to see Joe have a couple of runs too. Well done to all the players for an entertaining game of rugby!
