Report by Allan McTaggart

Garnock travelled last Saturday to Fintry in dull and overcast conditions to play Strathendrick.
Having won the earlier home fixture easily they expected a tougher game and so it proved.
Boosted by the return of Rory Walker, Jordan Taggart and Richard O’Neill to the squad after long term injury absences, Garnock were quickly out of the blocks in 2 minutes with a Keir  Walker penalty after Alan Miller had turned over the homesters ball.
Strathendrick almost immediately retaliated missing a kickable penalty but levelled the score after 10 minutes. Both sets of forwards were equally matched but good interplay by fullback Per Jacobson and Taggart led to a Garnock penalty. This was kicked to the right corner and Stuart Wilson from a typical drive scored a try converted by Keir Walker making the score 10-3 after 22 minutes.
The home team then had a good spell, nearly scoring a try overruled by a foot in touch and Garnock defence held out. Their forwards were starting to get the upper hand with Lewis McGeachy prominent, and after an odd referee decision to reverse a penalty they increased the lead with a carbon copy of the first score, McGeachy getting the touchdown making the halftime score 15-3.
After the break Garnock introduced Rory Walker and O’Neill, continuing to dominate and after several attempts to increase their lead due to the referee’s inability to see touchdowns, they were eventually awarded a penalty try in 50 minutes for collapsing a scrum. Strathendrick again pressured the visitors line without scoring and Garnock centre Jared Reekie made a skilful break from his goal line, linking up with Keir Walker for a long range try which he himself converted.
Leading 29-3 after 60 minutes with a bonus point secured, Garnock slackened off, allowing the Fintry side to score a consolation try through a forward drive.
At the referee’s final whistle the scoreline saw Garnock victors 29 points to 8.

This Saturday Garnock play league leaders East Kilbride at Lochshore. Kickoff 2pm
