Chairman’s Opening Remarks
Welcome to Garnock Rugby Club’s Annual General Meeting.
The past season has been a difficult one for the 1st XV however due to a good run of results toward the end of the season we ultimately finished in 7th place in West Division 1. The Gunn Cup was won back from Lenzie following a 32-7 victory however the Brian Gilbert Memorial Cup was retained by Kilmarnock.
Disappointingly we were unable to field a 2nd XV last season and efforts must be made to field a second team on as many occasions as possible in the coming season.
Our Senior coaches Jared Reekie and Barry Fitzgerald have worked tirelessly this season and our thanks go to them for all their efforts. Gavin Blackburn has been appointed coach for the upcoming season and laterally he worked with Jared and Barry helping to prepare the team for the final few league games
In the Junior Section our numbers have continued to grow due to the great work of our development officer Gavin Blackburn, modern apprentices and all of our junior coaches. Our Junior Convenor and his various Junior Committee members are doing a fantastic job and it is great to see the Junior Section thriving
The financial position of the club remains on a firm footing and huge thanks must go to all our sponsors without whom we would struggle to survive. A number of social functions were held during the year in order to raise club funds and thanks must go to all involved particularly Jim Hood in respect of the Sportsman’s Dinner and all those who organised the end of season Dinner Dance
Finally I must thank all of the committee for their hard work and effort and also Colin & Linda for their continued support and use of the Eglinton.
